I always thought Jeopardy was for really smart people, or at least people who could remember all of the useless little trivial bits and pieces of information that they get. Me, I’m definitely not smart, and I can’t seem to remember anything, so I found it funny, in a sick way, that here I am standing on stage with Alex Trebek, and two other contestants as we await the start of the game show.
It all began when I went online and took the quiz with fifty questions and apparently passed. I didn’t hear anything from the show for months so I’d guessed that I was not going to be chosen, however, out of the blue, I received a phone call from someone with the show, informing me that I was to go to Hollywood for a trial run for the game. I was to bring several changes of clothing and if I made this cut, then I would be invited to stay and play the real thing. This was not a problem for me, as I’m retired, so I have no job obligations and if someone wants to fly me to Hollywood and put me in a hotel room for a day or two, with all expenses paid, I readily accepted.
The trial run was done yesterday, and although I didn’t make the cut, as I only got two answers right, one of the contestants that did, was escorted off the set when he started screaming “I think Alex is staring at that man.” The poor guy was taken away by an ambulance, and then my luck improved, as I was told that I could stay and play.
So here I am on a studio stage, waiting for the camera light to go on. Alex was talking to one of the stage hands and I was chanting “just for today, try to be normal”, as sometime my humor can be a bit caustic and not everyone will see things as funny as I do. As I stood in my little world chanting, I started hearing a noise. “Does anyone hear that buzzing” I asked out loud to no one in particular. A stage hand close by replied that they were testing each of the constants buzzers to verify that they were operating correctly. I wanted to tell him that it wouldn’t matter if mine worked, but remembered my chant and kept my comments to myself.
Suddenly, all of the extra people on the stage disappeared. I heard someone say “Ready to roll” and “Quite on the set.” Alex took his place in front of the camera and the light came on. IT WAS SHOWTIME!!!!
Each constant was introduced and we all had two minutes to say something witty about ourselves. Okey dokey….I can handle that I thought, as I told Alex that I was a retired cook for a major resort, and how I once burnt President Ford’s dinner. He and the audience laughed as I explained what had happened and then moved on to the next constant. It’s a good thing he didn’t ask for more details, as the Secret Service was still in a real panic over the incident, and one might have thought that I had tried to do something to the President.
When all bantering between the contestants and Alex was over, the game began. The six categories were displayed – WWII; Words Origins; Greek Mythology; Shakespeare; Botanical Gardens; Automotive – YUCK!!! I’m domed to stand here and look like a total JERK. As predicted, I did not get a chance to buzz in once, but Dr. Randall and Judith Merryweather, the other two contestants, were clearing the board at an impressive speed. Thankfully, the buzzer sounded, and the first half of the show was completed. Both Dr. Randall and Judith were tied at an impressive 8,000 dollars each. I had zero, zip, nada, NOTHING. Talk about embarrassing. I never once attempted to ring the buzzer as I didn’t have a clue in regards to any of the subjects. Oh well, maybe the Jeopardy angles would help me out in the second half of the show.
During the commercial break everyone had their makeup touched up, and we were instructed to take a deep breath and relax. However, no sooner was that said, then it was time for Double Jeopardy. This time, the categories were – Pets; Sitcoms; Current Events; Power Tools; Famous Chefs and I couldn’t believe my eyes as there in large letters was a “YA” category also.
Being the contestant with the least amount of money, I got to select first. “I’ll take YA for 200, Alex” I said. Happily, none of the other players buzzed in, which enabled me to get all of the answers correct. For the first time, I was actually on the plus side of the board. I was feeling excited and relieved that same time. Sadly though, the other players cleaned out the remaining categories, but it didn’t matter, as I managed to stay in the game, and was waiting for the Final category to be reveled.
The theme music finished playing and then Alex says “And the last category is Gunsmoke.” OMG…where’s Sunshine when you need her?! I thought. I was sweating profoundly as I didn’t want to miss this question, but this is not a subject that I know a lot about. Hopefully, they will ask something easy, but somehow, I doubt it. If Sunshine were in my place she would be squealing with glee because she know EVERYTHING in regards to Gunsmoke. Unfortunately, she isn’t here, so it is going to be up to me. The final question was Who Played Sam, the bartender from 1961 – 1973? I didn’t have a clue. It’s a shame I couldn’t instant message Sunshine for the answer. Too late as the buzzer sounded and when I revealed I bet everything but had no answer, I was back down to zero. The other two contestants got the answer correct when they wrote who was Glenn Strange, but the doctor bet more of his prize money and won the contest.
All in all, I’m pretty happy about the outcome. It was really nerve racking being on the show and I don’t think I would have liked having to do it another night. I'm planning a party for ten sporty almost 5th graders and I'm making a sports jeopardy game and I need some questions pertaining to: Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, and Football at different difficulty levels (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 pts) I don't know a lot about sports trivia so please any questions will help. The crypt-wight is unique to the world of LOTRO, designed to be reminiscent of the wights of the great Barrow-downs in Eriador to the east of the Shire. I agree that the "tip me over and pour me out" sounds like the music immediately at the end of Final Jeopardy. Whenever my friends and I are watching Final Jeopardy, we always sing that part.

Is Double Jeopardy good or bad? And why? (Double Jeopardy the law not the game show)?
I see both pros and cons but what do you think?Is Double Jeopardy good or bad? And why? (Double Jeopardy the law not the game show)?
double-jeopardy is bad. if there was double-jeopardy, they ourt system would consitently harrass a citizen that was proven innocent. i could understand the cons, but the pros outweigh the cons. How would you like it if the DA kept charging you with the exact same charge when you're innocent?Is Double Jeopardy good or bad? And why? (Double Jeopardy the law not the game show)?
but they charge would only charge you again if there was evidence that showed you were obviously guilty so they wouldn't really keep charging someone who is innocent
