If you could be a contestant on any game show, what would you want to be on?

I'm just wondering if you'd want to play something that took intelligence or something that was based on luck. I'd want to be on "Deal or No Deal". I like playing along with "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" and I do well but I don't think I'd be so great at them if I actually was a contestant. I'm so embarrassed if I was like on "Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader" and I missed a second grade question! If you could be a contestant on any game show, what would you want to be on?
I'd go on Wheel of Fortune because even the person who comes in 3rd place gets to keep the money they earned.
Deal or No DealIf you could be a contestant on any game show, what would you want to be on?
Blind date. Shame it got cancelled :(
I would go and play on "Deal or No Deal."If you could be a contestant on any game show, what would you want to be on?
Deal or no Deal (so stressful though!) and also Cash Cab.
Price is right.

Luck shows always want you to act the part, and I'm not about to act like a jack@ss. And Intelligence shows, I'd be afraid that I'd get tossed in the first round or so. So not cool.
Family Feud. Thats always fun to play along with ^^

Have JWs now resorted to deliberately misquoting Jeopardy to rationalize their NWT?

A previous asker stated a question featured on the game show "Jeopardy" identified the JW "New World Translation" as the most accurate translation of the Bible available.

Here's the question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?…

However, the "Jeopardy" message board seems to disprove this assertion:

http://boards.sonypictures.com/boards/sh…

Just in case these Jeopardy geeks are wrong, can anyone provide a web page to back up the asker's dubious claim?Have JWs now resorted to deliberately misquoting Jeopardy to rationalize their NWT?
MY god, it's a POWERPOINT GAME someone made up and posted on the internet and called it "Theology Jeopardy." It isn't the TV Jeopardy, and any common sense adult thinking person would know they would never endorse one over the other. For all we know, a Jw - (maybe it was the questioner? Or Achtung?) posted it and then used it as proof.

For some JW to post this as FACT without taking the time to do research is mind-numbing. OTOH, it's typical of the way they run with rumors at anything that makes them feel more holy than thou.

Follow up to TRK: sorry I came across so harshly. I usually find your questions and answers reasonable. I'm surprised actually that it was your Q. It's just that accuracy of a particular translation is such a subjective judgement, it is very unlikely that any broadcasting company would endorse one over the other. Plus, imagine the backlash from viewers or listeners who disagreed for one reason or another; or, those who felt another translation should have been included.

It reminded me of when I was in the WT and a rumor spread (and was, incredibly, BELIEVED) that the little blue smurf dolls - supposedly demons - actually got up and walked out of a Kingdom Hall during WT Study one Sunday.

Sometimes, it pays just to think it through and ask, "does this sound plausible?"
Perform a search here on:

"NWT Jeopardy" or "JWs Jeopardy"

As of April 15, 2007, the ONLY result is the anti-JW diatribe above

Achtung, you slander the Word of God by every word you've typed on R%26amp;S. How many people have you caused to wander from the truth into lies? There is nothing that will be hidden from Him on the day of your judgement. You have followed another Gospel and are therefore anathema.

Besides, I posted links to PROOF that what I wrote is correct. And how typical of you not to understand the difference between "slander" and "libel."

The Jeopardy message board reads as follows: "The only two games with clues having to do with Bible translations are these: #5042, aired 2006-07-11 OLD AMERICAN HISTORY $400: In 1663 John Eliot's translation of this, both the old %26amp; new parts, appeared in Algonquin #2959, aired 1997-06-12 (continued)

(continued) RELIGION $100: The first translation of this book printed in America was John Eliot's 1661-63 Algonquian one.

Therefore, the New World Mistranslation was NEVER mentioned on Jeopardy, let alone stated to be the most accurate translation, ROFL!

Believe me. We don't need Jeopardy to know that the New World Translation is the BEST translation available today. Jehovah God's name appears where it should.

It's horrible that most Bible translations have removed our Creators name !!!

Jehovah is God Almighty and his Son is Jesus Christ.
I am the one who posted the question about Jeopardy. A friend of mine, very reliable said they SAW the show. I have emailed them for the date of the show.

If I am wrong, I do apologize, and it will teach me not to believe everything I read.

I did not post this question to cause such a ruckus. That is why I didn't mention JW's in the question.

Again I apologize if I was told wrong. There was no malicious intent. I just thought it was interesting!

Especially sorry to my fellow brothers %26amp; sisters.
Slander.

As of now (about 12:30pm Pacific Time on April 12, 2007), this "question" is only two hours old. The supposed "conspiratorial" question in the link is already deleted, so obviously that other questioner realized his mistake and conscientiously removed it.

The only real issue remaining is whether this questioner will do the same.

(Zechariah 8:16-17) These are the things that you people should do: Speak truthfully with one another. With truth and the judgment of peace do your judging in your gates. 17 And calamity to one another do not you scheme up in your hearts, and do not love any false oath; for these are all things that I have hated,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.”

http://watchtower.org/e/20000622/
Instead of wasting your time on game shows you would do well to research for yourself and you would learn as many others have that the NW translation is the most accurate and easily understandable version of the Bible available today.
Well the link is not inactive, so I cannot comment on it. However consider how often people misquote things with NO malice or illintent. Even if the poster was doing so, the answer is still NO. The question could be, has *insert name of poster* resorted to... however, I recently was informed you can't put someone's ID in a Q.

Consider the numerous miss quotes and inaccurate statements on here about, well, almost all subjects. I hope most of these are without a desire to cause problems.

In any event this is a good reminder to NEVER believe what we here/read as true on the sole, singular basis of someone says it/types it/writes it.
Even if Jeopardy had the question (which is doubtful) does it really matter? Are they experts on NT translations?
And how many Jehovah's Witnesses have posted that question here in Y/A!?

....Oh...1, just 1 out of the 6.7+ million. So how come the whole group is being pulled into your attempt to discredit Jehovah's Witnesses?

I'd say that Jehovah's Witnesses don't have to deliberately do anything to rationalize the NWT. Many Bible scholars themselves have stated that the NWT is the only Bible that is translated according to the Original Greek Scriptures. So regardless of whether this is right (which I heard it is) or not, the NWT still stands to be one of the best translations of the Bible ever.
Wow, thank you for the question. I was having what you might call a gnarly day and this gave me a real belly laugh.

I'm putting up my "gone fishing" sign and heading over to my favorite chair to curl up with a good version of the Bible. Guess which one it isn't.
These are the tactics religious people use.

But they're probably not aware when they do it and only assume that others do it.
That's what I've heard!

I found where this thing originated though (see source). It was one JW who said he heard a thing about the NWT being on Jeopardy (having heard of this powerpoint thing), and it slowly evolved into the NWT being the "Best Translation"... come on, people!
my original answer sticks - jeopardy starts with an answer and ends with a question - contradictory to what the yahoo question stated

btw, could jeopady geeks really be wrong?
Was this an actual Jeopardy question?

If the response was in fact the NWT, that would be very interesting sense the NWT, is a biased translation. That is, translated only by JW's.

Plus, this doesn't seem like a good question for Jeopardy. Because really this is a matter of opinion and has to do with what you consider accurate and the various translation methodologies. (Dynamic equivalent, word for word, etc)

Yes, I was on the Dating Game as a contestant and the girl picked me because I had fewer stupid answers than the other guys (it was just luck). Do you know what the date was? I have never been on a national TV game show, but I WAS on a New Orleans trivia game show some years ago, made and broadcast in New Orleans. I still have it on VHS tape. It was called "N.O. It Alls." I didn't win, but I might have done better if they hadn't had the contestants answer which high school the show's host attended in New Orleans! He was/is a New Orleans sports broadcaster. How was anyone supposed to know which high school he attended unless the person went to school with him?? I thought it was a very unfair question.

Why did this French ref behave like this in Brazil vs Cote'd Ivore game?

    What i mean is this,

while celebrating his second goal, which was a clear handball, the replay showed the ref telling Fabiano that he actually used his hands in controlling the ball before scoring, MEANING THE REF SAW IT AND IGNORED, then Fabiano shook his head, leaving the Smiling happily. WTF!

    Is this ref serious!?

is he behaving like this coz His countrymen The French are in Jeopardy? Why did this French ref behave like this in Brazil vs Cote'd Ivore game?
he was asking him if he had used his hands.. he didn't quite see it from his angle.. he might have been warning him for next time as well, but I think he was asking him due to FIFA doesn't allow replays and he was probably thinking on a international level and Brazil being upper elite that sportsmanship might come into play.. guess not. or if the player didn't feel it hit his hands but only felt it on his elbow then he might've believed he was okay and didn't do anything wrong.. I have been in sports before where a ref made a call that I illegally touched/handled a sport ball of some sort, or like in basketball where I tried to steal a ball and the ref saw me hit the opponents hand and I thought i felt the basketball, I mean sometimes your focus is on one thing and you don't realize you did something else.. but I think the ref was just making sure he saw what he saw.. but at least he made a decision and stuck with it, that's what refs are there for, especially without benefit of instant replay.. if he overturned that call, then why would anyone believe him later if he made another call, he is there to enforce the rules from what he can see.. if FIFA was wise, they would add side refs or instant replay.. 1 person for 22 people spread that far apart is kind of ridiculous, but at the same time schools and pee wee programs all over the country operate the same way week in and week out.Why did this French ref behave like this in Brazil vs Cote'd Ivore game?
ya, that was clearly a hand ball and the ref clearly saw it, or else he woudlnt be asking himWhy did this French ref behave like this in Brazil vs Cote'd Ivore game?
You seen him in the replays going over to the scorer of the second goal and pointing to his arm and they were both smiling.

I think he was worried that he had made a mistake and decided to send kaka off to sor of make up for it.
At first view, I was baffled myself.

Ya the ref wasn't sure about the handball. The referee cannot disallow anything if he wasn't sure. He was merely asking Fabiano if he used his hands. Clearly, the player said otherwise.

    Great camera work though.

Why do the dumbest game shows give the most money?

I need help deciding what type of online game to play.?

I am in my mid-thirties, married, with 2 beautiful children. I have always had to many responsibilities to enjoy the internet very much. We only had 1 family desktop computer, and with a teenager %26amp; a 7 year old there was very little time that the computer was not being used. For christmas I bought my oldest daughter a laptop, and I bought another one for myself, too. So now I can try out new things on the internet. When I was younger I enjoyed games like Mario Brothers, %26amp; Donkey Kong. My children also have a Wii, and Nintendo DSs. On those I enjoy Smarter than a 5th Grader, Mario Brothers, Spyro, Laura Croft Tomb Raider, Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure, Jeopardy, and other games like those.

I should probably say that I don't know a lot about computers, and I can't type real fast. I want something that will be fun, and that I want have think real hard to play. I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music, and movies. I like rock music mostly, but I do listen to other stuff. My oldest daughter is into Country, and my youngest daughter is into Pop. So I have and do listen to a little in those genres also. I have listed a few of the books %26amp; movies that I enjoy.

Crime Drama's like American Psycho, Along Came a Spider, Bone Collector, Double Jeopardy, %26amp; Eagle Eye (to name a few)

Action like A-Team, Angels %26amp; Demons, Da Vinci Code, Enemy of the State %26amp; The Fallen (to name a few)

Fantasies like Avatar, The Phantom, Electra, Star Wars, Batman, Blade, True Blood, Twilight, Constantine, %26amp; Fantastic 4 (to name a few)

I have tried to give you a quick over view of the type of stuff I like. I hope that this will help you help me. I think it might be fun to play a game on the computer, and I am looking forward to trying something new.

So do you think I would like Role Playing Games (RPGs), Real Time Strategy Games (RTSs), First Person Shooter Games (FPSs) or Turn Based Games (TBSs). I would like you to name specific games, tell me what type of game it is, and what the object of the game is. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN ANY GAMES THAT HAVE SEXUAL CONTENT. Please don't offer any of those types of games.

I am older, but I can learn. I think that this might be fun.

Thank You in advance for your help.I need help deciding what type of online game to play.?
try Sim City 4, its simple but requires a bit of problem solving, and doesnt take much power to run
or Civilization V, which is like Sim City, but on a grander scale where you lead your "Civilization" to victory through either war, democracy, economics, or culture.

theres also World of Warcraft which features endlessly addictive gameplay, but that fetches a price tag of $15/month

League of Legends, a free to play online RTS style game, very fun.

The Sims 3, you already have a real family, now start a virtual family and live in your virtual world and do just about anything.

Maplestory, a side scrolling MMORPG where you embark on quests and meet new friends

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, A free FPS game that has lots of cool mods and pretty solid gameplay to keep you occupied

thats all i got for now. .

You could play a email game like Olympia 3. Here is the web site (http://olympia.v-labs.be/g3)
It is free. The advantage of this type of game is it is turn based. 1 turn per week. So you can do the turn on any day at any time. The results are emailed to you. No software to buy or maintain. Their are 200+ players at this time. I like that it is not scripted ... All the results are determined by the RL players. If you decide to play I will be very happy to help you.

alright to start off what would you consider to be interesting a good 20-40 min strategy game? go for a rts or if you are feeling to go to the next level go for a card game ( magic the gathering ) or do you want a fast pace game such as a shooter(call of duty) if you want a deep story and various plots go for a rpg ( fallout, dragon age, oblivion. if you want a great game suggestion in my opinion check out borderlands on youtube it is a single-co-op fps/rpg game with retro cartoon graphics. if you would like something relaxing i would suggest super mario galaxy,so you could play with your kids as well or you could pick up a copy of a good wii family game. if you are going for a pc game for yourself YOU MUST DOWNLOAD STEAM. steam is the largest pc game distributer in the world right now.you digataly buy games that never can be lost and can be trasnsfered computers via the internet. if you are not on board with the whole online game buying a quick trip to a local gamestore could solve your problem. hope i helped :D

Why Doesn't the Buzzer On Jeopardy Work?

I always see the people on Jeopardy pressing the buzzer, but it never seems to work for them. They press it repeatedly, and it never works. Why is that? Is the game rigged? Why Doesn't the Buzzer On Jeopardy Work?
No, game shows are never rigged. There are laws against that, with huge penalties. They are so strict about it, contestants are always monitored in the studio so nobody can give them an unfair advantage.

The buzzers are only activated JUST after Alex finishes reading the last word in a clue. If you buzz in before the buzzers are activated, you will be "locked out" for around a fifth of a second, which is plenty of time for somebody else to ring in while you wait (seriously). And of course, your buzzer is not activated if somebody else gets in before you. Jeopardy! is not only a contest of smarts, but also speed; as you need to have EXACTLY the right timing to ring in before someone else does... that's how Ken Jennings won 74 games in a row, he had gotten so used to the timing.

What's your favorite game show of all time, even if its no longer running?

If I had to choose one it would be Jeopardy. If I place them in order it would be:

    Jeopardy

    Family Feud

    Love Connection

    The Dating Game

The Newlywed GameWhat's your favorite game show of all time, even if its no longer running?
    Jeopardy

For my AP theory class, we are reviewing 20 pages of vocabulary, and every 4 pages (or 4 sections) are going to be on the review game, Jeopardy. Monday and Tuesday, I didn't study as hard, and I was able to answer the questions better. Today, I studied yesterday, and in class, and studied hard in study hall, and wasn't able to answer as fast. We won, but my reaction and reading and thinking seemed to be slowed down, and I didn't go hit the buzzer fast...so...Can over studying make you more tired and possible worse?
Best way to study vocab, one page at a time. If you mess up, restart. You're committed to AP, so suck it up.

In school, we have to present a seminar about phytoremediation (removal of toxins, etc. from soil with the use of plants) and one of the requirements is getting the class involved with your seminar. I'm not too fond of creating a game (no jeopardy, or anything related) where you just ask questions about the seminar topic, so I was looking for some other ideas.

    Any suggestions are welcome!

ThanksWhat is a good way of getting an entire class involved?
Okay, well, you could try a hands on method. Like bring in a plant and have something represent the toxins, the thingy that removes the toxins (I'm obviously in my element with my usage of technical terms). You could have certain people act it out. That usually becomes funny somehow. Hope it helps! What is a good way of getting an entire class involved?
Doing an experiment works good, giving them something tangible to see and perhaps participate in. Perhaps lead them along, and then have them make conclusions, though correct them if they're wrong, much like teachers usually do: expect you to try, not just spoon feed the information to the students. What is a good way of getting an entire class involved?
Have a Q+A session at the end and give prizes to people who participate (a piece of candy). That usually works.

    The Game of LIFE

    Monopoly

    Rack-o

Rummikub (like the card game rummy, but with tiles instead of cards)

    Lie, Cheat, and Steal

    Scattegories

    Phase 10 Dice

    Mil Bourne

    etc.
Risk was one of my favorites as a kid (very much a boy's game).

Clue and Monopoly were also favorites - but need several players (at least 3) to be most fun

Others I really enjoyed that you have not mentioned:

    - Mother's Helper

    - Pit (needs at least 4 people for it to be fun, very fun with 7 or so people)

    - Mille Bornes (sp?) - best with 3 or 4

    - Sorry

    - Parcheesi

    - Scrabble

As I recall, we were only moderately entertained by Masterpiece. Chess and checkers have the problem that different skill levels (usually corresponding to age) make the game much less interesting for siblings.

    - JimWhat board game do you prefer to play?
Chess of course, it is simply great. For others chess is sports, science and art combined. There are is reason why millions are at stake at world chess championship. There is reason why thousand books have been written about chess. There is reason why millions of people play chess around the world. Because as I told, chess is great.

Base on experience teach well a kids on the concepts of chess(not only the rules), and they will love and play chess for the rest of their life. Sample of chess concept is bad bishop, fork and weak pawns.

How do people become contestants on game shows?

I'm not talking about the ones where actual skill or knowledge is involved (e.g. Jeopardy), but the ones where any old schmo could do it, where the chances of winning are all based on chance - Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Deal or No Deal, etc.

Anyone who gets to be a contestant on one of those shows is going to make SOME money, and while it may not be the jackpot, its still going to be a sizeable sum - at least in the tens of thousands of dollars - and that's nothing to scoff about.

So just by having these people on their show, the network is basically guaranteeing to hand them at least several thousand dollars and maybe a lot more.

I'm just wondering: how does the network actually decide WHO to have on the show? Is it random? Or do the screen applicants? Can anyone apply?

please, tell meHow do people become contestants on game shows?
go to the website and print the application, you generally have to send in a video as well. be sure to fill it out exactly like they ask. do not miss a step. that will automatically disqualify you. it always helps to be a little different. WHY SHOULD THEY LET YOU COME ON THE SHOW??? show them why! also, having a good story or an interesting fact helps too. good luck!
At the end of the show, they normally say, "If you would like to be a contestant on ____________, and live in or are planning to visit the _________ area, call _________ or isit our website at _____________."How do people become contestants on game shows?
You have to go to the games show's website and sign up.
Call the network or email them saying you are interested in becoming a contestant on their game show! Good Luck, hope to you on tv. By the way, you are only guaranteed to win at least $200 on most game shows. Some game shows give people a quiz to fill out like Who Wants to be a Millionaire or Jeopardy. Most of the time anyone who is over the age of 18 years old can apply. How do people become contestants on game shows?

  • I need to do an activity about adoption for my sociology class?

I need to do an activity about adoption for my sociology class and I have absolutely no idea what to do. We can't do a jeopardy or any game show thing. I am so idealess. Thanks For The Help :DI need to do an activity about adoption for my sociology class?
First ask everyone in your class to raise their hands if they think adoption is a "good thing". Count hands.

Next, ask your class who *wishes* they had been given up to adoption. Count hands.

Calculate the massive percentage drop between the two questions.

    Discussion questions:

If adoption is "good" then why don't people want to partake in it like other "good" things such as a chocolate bar or a Hawaiian vacation?

Most humans believe that "family" is the most important thing we have, so why would anyone encourage the dismantling of family through adoption? Should more be done to keep families together?

If some believe that family is replaceable, ask if it would be okay to mix up the babies in a hospital nursery, and send couples home with another family's child. Is this "good"? Why or why not?

Good luck!I need to do an activity about adoption for my sociology class?
Continuing what Sunny said: See if one or more of them has children. Then ask that person how many children they have and their ages. Then ask them to choose which child they want to give up for adoption and never see again, knowing that the child likely feels rejected and angry and abandoned (because people do NOT give away those they love).

If they don't have children, ask them to choose which sibling or parent they want to lose to adoption, forever.

"If adoption is that wonderful, which one of YOUR children do you want to give away?"I need to do an activity about adoption for my sociology class?
I don't know what your assignment is, but how about video taped interviews of women from the younger generation and the older generation to show different attitudes, if any? You could also try interviewing men and women to show gender differences in attitudes.

    Just a thought.
Adding to Sunny's answer ask how many could surrender a child then ask why those who think adoption is good why they couldn't surrender a child.

What would be a good game for....?

ok so my class assignment is to design a game with the instructions and rules(have game pieces, board game, or whatever is needed to play the game. It can be based on a game board, jeopardy, who wants to be a millionaire, scrabble etc. or make up a new type of game)

the game has to practice a parts of speech and mine is compound nouns

PLZ GIVE ME ANY IDEAS!!! and tel me wat needs to be included to play the game

*BEST GAME IDEA GETS AN EASY 10 POINTS!!!What would be a good game for....?
You could make a board game and a spinner that has spaces on it identifying noun, verb, adjective, and preposition. Then have people roll one die and move that number of spaces. Then the person has to make a word that uses what they spun/landed on. Like noun/noun = football, etc. The same thing could probably be done with just cards. You could also have free spaces where a person would only have to name the part of speech they spun. If a person can't think of anything, then they have to go to a "time-out" zone where they have to choose a card from a stack and correctly identify all the parts of a speech in a sentence on that card before they can rejoin the game. First person to make it to the end of the board wins. Or maybe first to identify 5 compound nouns wins. Doesn't sound like much fun, but it's a start! Anyone else? What would be a good game for....?
you could make it simple and make it like memory as a matching card game. match up stick with in the mud and daughter with in law and vice with president and raindrops with on roses and sand with castle and match the parts together. What would be a good game for....?
If you have a Twister mat, there are lots of fun ways to use that. Each color could represent anything you want, like yellow spot you have to answer a trivia question about TV/movies, etc. Or it could be as simple as Bingo, collect each color and whoever does first wins. Sounds like fun to me!

How about trying to talk to them first? Seek to understand why they are worried. Ask them to understand why you want to go.

    OR

Sit down individually and reverse roles. You be the mother and let her be the child and each of you try to understand the other's point of view.

I hope the issue is resolved ending with a greater appreciation of each other.

Do you know how the score changes are decided in Jeopardy?

I'm a big fan of the game show Jeopardy and have watched it for as long as I can remember. One thing I have never been able to figure out though is how they decide how to change someone's score if it is decided later that their answer was incorrect. For instance, in tonight's episode, the answer to a $1000 question (or question to the answer if you're a stickler for the Jeopardy rules) was Fran Drescher. The contestant however said Fran Dreschler. Alex gave him credit for the right answer but I knew they would change. Sure enough, after the show came back from commercial, Alex made an announcement that the answer was reviewed and they decided it was wrong. But they deducted $2000 from his score. I don't understand why anything other than $1,000 was taken out. I'm also pretty sure that it's not always double what the clue was worth.

Can anyone shed some light on this?Do you know how the score changes are decided in Jeopardy?
It's simple: They take back the $1,000 that was given to the contestant when they answered. They also take an additional $1,000 away since the contestant answered incorrectly; as per the rules of the game.

Which is why it looked like they lost $2,000; the original $1,000 should have never been awarded in the first place. If it turns out that the error had a possible effect on the outcome of the game; anybody affected gets to keep their winnings, and play again (even if they didn't win).

In other words, they deducted $1,000 since the answer wasn't right, and another $1,000 since the answer was wrong.

What did winston churchill, karl marx, joseph stalin, have to do with the russian revolution?

its for a jeopardy game. we already know that churchill opposed communism, stalin overthrew trotsky, and marx is known for marxism and creating communism. anythign else???????What did winston churchill, karl marx, joseph stalin, have to do with the russian revolution?
Churchill was the Secretary of State for War during the Russian Revolution. A major preoccupation of his tenure in the War Office was the Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. Churchill was a staunch advocate of foreign intervention, declaring that Bolshevism must be "strangled in its cradle". He secured, from a divided and loosely organised Cabinet, intensification and prolongation of the British involvement beyond the wishes of any major group in Parliament or the nation 鈥?and in the face of the bitter hostility of Labour. In 1920, after the last British forces had been withdrawn, Churchill was instrumental in having arms sent to the Poles when they invaded Ukraine.

Thank you :)What happens when two players tie at the end of the TV show Jeopardy?
This is from a website designed by an avid Jeopardy fan (since 1987) so take it with a grain of salt:

"If at the end of a game there is a nonzero tie for first place, then a tie-breaker clue is played to determine the winner. The tie-breaker is a buzz-in clue worth no additional dollar value. The first contestant to ring in and give the correct response wins. There is no penalty for an incorrect response; if all contestants involved in the tie-breaker miss or cannot come up with the correct response, then another tie-breaker is played until a winner is determined."

Do people on Game Shows that play for money actually win the money they win on the show?

So these games shows, like The Price is Right, Wheel Of Fortune, Jeopardy, Family Feud or any other game shows that deals with contestants winning money in the game....Do these contestants actually win the money they win on the show or is it all fake?? Somebody give me real answers please.Do people on Game Shows that play for money actually win the money they win on the show?
yeah they really win that money. .. but all money won over a certain amount, like anything else is taxed, so someone that wins 10,000 dollars could end up paying a grand or more on taxes. . . :( . . .. ive heard of some people winning supposably bran new cars, and they turned out to not be as new as they said they were. . .but most of the time the prizes and money is all real. . . :P
They win the money, but they have to pay tax on it. So usually they only take home 1/2 to 2/3's of their actual winnings. They are not staged, but the contestants are hand picked for who would be the most fun to watch.Do people on Game Shows that play for money actually win the money they win on the show?
I think you do win the money because if you didn't, there wouldn't be a show on air for more than 30 years. Think about it. Wheel of Fortune is one of the most popular game shows. The only thing that some of us forget is that the money goes away fast because of bills, taxes, education (if you're in school) and to pay off some other ppl from back in the day.
You get the money but it is taxed at a high rate.Do people on Game Shows that play for money actually win the money they win on the show?
not all of it, they have to pay taxes first then they get the rest
Yes they win the money but have to pay the taxes on it.
I think they really win that money. Otherwise there'd be a huge hoopla about it. I'd sure be ticked it it was me and I didn't get the money.
YEA U GET MONEY BUT U DONT GET IT RIGHT AWAY U GET IT LIKE INE SIX MONTHS

"Classic" games are not the only ones that can be considered educational. Most RPG's require a lot of reading, almost similar to an interactive book. And there are dozens of great ones for PSP. Anytime you are devoting that much time to reading, and understanding, you are improving your English. They seem difficult and pointless to me too... but everytime I watch them with Nick, he gets like half of the answers right. I'm not just saying that because I love him - he really does. He is a vast mass of, what seems to be, useless information. Another show that's like that is Cash Cab on Discovery Channel. Only it's not as tense and more fun, it seems like. Why in general are contestants on Jeopardy! discouraged from creating co-champions?

I notice a lot on the game show that contesants make Final Jeopardy wagers to ensure that they would win by one dollar. However, if they tie with another contestant, co-champions are created were both players will return for the subsequent match with their earnings intact. Is this out of natural human competitiveness where the drive for a sole winner is at play, or is this something that is pushed on the players by the producers for their own reasons? Thanks in advance. Why in general are contestants on Jeopardy! discouraged from creating co-champions?
It is strategy. If the mess up on the final question, they don't wat to lose and more than they have to to win so that if everyone messes up they still win.

In short they are playing to be wrong, being as you bet first and then hear the question.

help please with this question, 10 points to best answer plz. For jeopardy game. What 2 scientists established the structure of DNA ?
James Watson and Francis Crick are generally regarded as the two chief scientists who established the double-helix structure of DNA, but much of their work was based on the x-ray crystallography of Rosalind Franklin.

Franklin developed cancer and died before the Nobel Prize was awarded to Watson and Crick - and Nobel Prizes are not awarded post-humously - so she did not garner the same accolades as Watson and Crick. Some say that the misogynistic nature of the scientific establishment also worked to rob Franklin of her due.

The Nobel Prize was also shared by Maurice Wilkins, who was another X-ray crystallographer, and peer of Franklin's, whose work was instrumental in determining the structure of DNA.
James Watson and Francis CrickWhat 2 scientists established the structure of DNA ?
James Watson(American) and Francis Crick (British).
There was three! Rosalind Franklin is often forgotten. I think she did most of the work.. :) Watson and Crick were the other 2 of course. What 2 scientists established the structure of DNA ?
    Watson and Crick
A female chemical physicist Rosalind Franklin was just as responsible, if not MORE responsible for discovering the structure of DNA. They used some of her information without her knowledge, and she was never given the credit she deserved.

Crick and Watson. One American, one British. At Cambridge, I think. 1950's.
    James Watson and Francis Crick
Franklin, discovered the shape of DNA from her x-rays however, she really did not know what they related to.

Watson and Crick who had been working on the shape of DNA had many theories of how DNA carried all of it information. Once Watson and Crick saw Franklins picture they realised that DNA has a double helix and this proved to fit all nucleotides etc in place.

Watson and Crick in my opinion did discover the structure but would not have without the intelligent Franklins hard work.

Why are the Pistons in jeopardy of missing the playoffs?

They just got Wallace and Hamilton and sort of Iverson back...they should have won like 6 games already. They kept on losing to even the weaker teams. I don't understand why they keep losing.

Why is Stuckey playing so terrible? Why are the Pistons in jeopardy of missing the playoffs?
    What up Rip Hamilton,

    Apart from the "obvious reason."

i think mentally the Pistons look like they are just going through the motions. Perhaps they realize that they are no longer serious contenders in the East. The Veterans honestly look like they are just playing for the season to be over- and then awaiting whatever changes comes next- whether that is a change of venue- or waiting for Dumars to make some incredible move with the money that will be freed up with A.I.'s departure.

i think Stuckey got placed into the "fire" too soon- and he's suffering through some "sophomore slump" and still learning the ropes.

It also seems that the players don't have a faith in Michael Curry that they had when Flip Saunders and Larry Brown was there.

    Nickster
Because they have the same system ever since their franchise started. I had a question about them and the Knicks in the same breath a couple of days ago. Plus also, they gave up Ben Wallace which was stupid and they haven't been the same since. LOL Stupid Pistons! LOL Ah, yeah! Stuckey is playing terrible because he looks exactly like 50 cent! They could pass for look a likes. Why are the Pistons in jeopardy of missing the playoffs?
They have been suffering many injuries, and havent had all their players at the same time coexisting. Their chemistry is way off now that chaunceys gone. Rip and Sheed are their only hope, but they arent doing a good job right now. And stuckey idk maybe he was just lucky and he really sucks.
It's because of Billups not being there.

    SERIOUSLY.

When Billups was there, the Pistons would win 50 games like it was nothing.

Now? Ha.Why are the Pistons in jeopardy of missing the playoffs?
Iverson is out for the season. Right now its like they traded Billups for nothing. Plus, their coach is a rookie who is in over his head.
    2 words: allen iverson

and 3 more words: no chauncy billups
becuase they distroied the team, first Ben was left, now Chauncey is gone, next thing you know Hamilton is gone too
The team is aging... the east is getting better ..pistons are stagnat...
THEY ARE OLD AND THEY SUCK
I hope They make it just to beat Orlando.
    lmao AI is the problem!!
Maybe because they cat play team basketball ...idk.....why dont you ask them lol

Are you selling them to get more games? or are you falling out of love with games? Alot of places want the cases and sometimes the manuals before they'll consider buying it from you [in some cases the disc needs to be in good condition too]

If you want to try the trading game.. join http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/homepa鈥?/a> its a game trading site.. you send and receive .. you get some points for joining.. than the more you trade or "sell" you get points which you can use to "purchase" better games or games you've been looking for. I've gotten a few games in great condition that way..

I did Goozex because blockbuster and a video game specialty store wouldn't lemme trade in most of my ps2, psp, xbox or gc games.. or if they did.. it was only 2 bucks =/ [which they turn around and sell it for 20 $]

Seriously.. on ebay.. anything can sell for anything. My dad put up a new wii fit unopened.. only thinking he was getting back 80, he got nearly 300.

A stack of flashcards containing questions can be the 'Chance' and 'Community chest' cards.

The player rolls a dice, and depending upon the number obtained, a question of a certain difficulty is asked.

    Jeopardy Contestants?

My Dad and I are discussing the television game, "Jeopardy." I believe the contestants study prior to coming on the show. It is my guess the show's staff gives each contestant specific categories that will be presented on the show; therefore allowing the contestants the ability to prepare through study material prior to competing on the show. Does anyone know what the preparation consists of prior to the contestants' arrival, if any? Thanks.Jeopardy Contestants?
no they don't prep the contestants by letting them know the categories, it's random. here's how it works, you take the online test, if you do well enough they call for an in-person interview and another test, if they like you, you get to go do the show, they do a couple mock games so you get the feel for the buzzer and how quick the game actually goes, then you go on tv. But at no time, do they give you the categories to prep ahead of time, some people just actually know those random things that no one else knows.Jeopardy Contestants?
Yes they study but are not told what to study. Read the books by Bob Harris (Prisoner of Trebekistan) and Ken Jennings--don't remember the name of that and you will see how they prepared.

Ken Jennings was kind of a ringer, because he did Quiz Bowl in college, and continues to write questions for Quiz Bowls. But, when he made the cut to get on the show, he studied up a lot.

Bob Harris was lucky, he got on and won a game sort of randomly, then he was told to come back in a few months because there was a break. So he took that time to study.

Ken Jennings, being a Mormon, knows nothing about "potent potables", a frequent category. But, once he started going on the game he had his wife ask him questions from a bartender's guide.

I myself recently took the online test and "may" have done well enough to get called in. I did some studying but knew a lot of the information just from years of reading, etc.

If you watch the game more than a few times you know certain categories repeat over and over, you need to know Bible, mythology, literature, state capitals, certain things like that. One weird thing I did do was I thought, ok there are often questions about Canada so I memorized the capitals and their provinces. And, I actually walked into my computer room to take the test repeating "Regina Saskatchewan" to myself and lo and behold that exact ? was on the test. Weird.Jeopardy Contestants?
no, if they did Watson would have answered everything correctly

Do you think people who are good at trivia games are smart?

Why do people who are good at trivia games (Jeopardy, trivial pursuit, quiz bowl, etc) think they are so smart because they've memorized a bunch of stuff?Do you think people who are good at trivia games are smart?
What that's called is being an "idiot savant." They know a lot of random facts but the knowledge is basically useless in the real world, as in it won't get them paid UNLESS they win some game show.Do you think people who are good at trivia games are smart?
theyre not smart theyre just showoffs they like saying ooohh i was on tv.... and any ways they only study to get money theyre not actually smart they just study as hard as they could before the show!

but some people are really smart or some r not

some even wear earphone thingys and r hearing answers from actual smart people

Can the smell of dry erase markers give you the hiccups?

During my English class, we were using dry erase markers to write on our boards during a game of Jeopardy. The markers were really smelly and gave me a headache. During the end of our session with the markers, I got the hiccups. Then it lasted half of the next period. Is it possible that the smell of dry erase markers made my case of hiccups happen? Can the smell of dry erase markers give you the hiccups?
i doubt it, hiccups are very similar to burps, their bubbles of liquid that pop within your stomach which causes you to jolt suddenly. and i doubt the smell of dry erase markers would cause that. but hey, everyone's different.

Is the life of an innovative games console in jeopardy because of 'fanboys/girls' of rival companies?

I've recently been given both a Nintendo Wii and a DS, which I loe. The innovative gameplay allows a new way to play and control games, which I find a far greater advance and innovation than the same old thing trumped out with shinier more impressive graphics, but before either machine was actually released the Sony/Microsoft fanboys were out in force as if the matter was a done deal. The DS selling statistics speak for themselves when matched against the PSPs relatively poor selling rates, and although not released here yet, the predicted sales rates for the PS3 look as if the machine will crash here when matched against the Wii, especially when you look at the sales figures in the US.

My question is: Why do people judge technology before they have experienced it - and then, why do they seem to want to stick with a new generation of what they have rather than experiment with new forms of gameplay? Will this attitude ruin the industry or have Nintendo laid down the gauntlet? Is the life of an innovative games console in jeopardy because of 'fanboys/girls' of rival companies?
That's an awesome question, so I'll answer the easy part first.

Nintendo has always been all about the games, so really there's no fear of them quitting any time soon. They know they've got some of the most widely-recognized franchises in the world (Zelda and Mario) and so long as they can play off that, then they'll never need fear anything like the quiet death of the Dreamcast.

As far as fanboys go, I think the main reason they stick with a certain company, like Sony, Microsoft, or even Nintendo, is the same reason we stick with our favourite baseball/football/basketball teams, even when they're having a bad season. We like to be involved in the fight, we like to feel like our 'team' is winning, hence the "Sony rocks, everyone else sucks" attitude.

This probably won't ruin the industry, but it will probably promote systems and gear that don't deserve any recognition. The real losers are the people that won't ever get to play a phenomenal system merely because of their own prejudices.

  • Why do americans pronounce numbers in a different way?

I'm new in the USA but i noticed right away that americans talk or say numbers differently. For example: the number 2400 (two thousand four hundred), instead they say... (twenty four hundred) I also notice this trend in the game show jeopardy. Why do americans pronounce numbers in a different way?
They are both correct, so what difference does it make? You could also say 240 tens.
Interesting observation. I'm American and never noticed that. Perhaps it's just verbal shorthand? Why do americans pronounce numbers in a different way?
It's the way languages develop differently.

Another difference... in UK we say two hundred and ten in US the say two hundred ten for the number 210

There are so many examples of the way numbers and words have developed in US and in other parts of the world.

It shows tyhe old saying "2 countries separated by a common language" I like that saying
Saves a syllable. Why do americans pronounce numbers in a different way?
I've noticed English say Zed, and Americans say Zee. Just an observation. Zed just sounds funny to me.

well, they might yell the right answer, or question....

What is the official Jeopardy! ruling?

In the game of Jeopardy! don't you have to include the last name in your responce unless otherwise noted in the clue? The clue did not say anything regarding their first names. What is the official Jeopardy! ruling?

I'm trying to make a Jeopardy program for someone?

I'm doing a special project for a friend. She has been using a PowerPoint version of Jeopardy, and isn't too thrilled with it. I have a moderate command of VB.Net, basic command of Java, C#, Flash, and only rudimentary knowledge of HTML and CSS. I wanted to make an Internet version, so she wouldn't have to download the desktop version on a work computer. Any ideas? The version is someone modified, so all of the cookie-cutter Flash Jeopardy games wouldn't work. I have a desktop version completed, but I have no idea how to go about making it online-accessible. Please help!!!I'm trying to make a Jeopardy program for someone?
Well - since you haven't told us in great detail what is happening on the local level, I'm not really sure how to direct you on the online level.

Normally, something that works locally (in your browser) will also work online *if* it is written in code that is "standard" (accessible) from an online page. JavaScript and PHP are probably the two most common online computer scripting languages (JavaScript runs on the "client" side - the local computer - and can be used to modify the appearance and activity of the web page; PHP runs on the "server" side, and is used primarily for database access and to modify HTML according to data entered *before* the web page was loaded); flash is, of course, very portable, as is Java.

Judging by what you *have* written, you're best bet might be to program it entirely in Java and then include that Java program into a simple web page. It may be that Flash is better for you - but the same thing applies. Instructions on how to include Java and Flash programs in a web page are all over the internet, and requires "minimal" HTML and CSS.

  • Do people really win real money on TV game shows?

So I could go on "Who wants to be a millionair" or "Jeopardy" and in a few minutes I could win 125000 or even a million?

why didn't everbody try it, why didn't ppl who win be featured in the news, like people who win the jackpot?Do people really win real money on TV game shows?
Yes you do win money. Of course there are taxes to be paid , usually much higher then what you normally paid. On bigger wins it is rumored that taxes can be as much as 40%.

getting on a game show is not as easy as it seems, even if you get called down to audition, or wait in line, you can wait for hours only to not be picked. I know plenty of people who have waited 20+ times to get on the price is right (just to be in the audience for a chanced to come on down) and never get choosen.

Do you have any ideas of game activities that my group should create for.. (10 pts)?

my history class? For example, the previous groups did games like charades, pictionary, jeopardy, the game where you toss an object around until someone stops the music and whoever catches it have to answer the question, etc. (but they're not really fun games; more like games that relate to the chapter we're presenting) I don't want something tooo simple, but not too complicated either--just a bit more fun. The games should be something that allows the players to answer questions. Thanks! Whoever comes up with the best one gets 10 pts! (you might be creative, but if the game was already done for another group, thanks for trying:).Do you have any ideas of game activities that my group should create for.. (10 pts)?
Have a person that can tag people, then turn off the lights and have them tag a few people and whoever gets tagged has to lay on the floor till the lights come back on and then someone asks the questions. It's a really fun game we played it at church I can guaranty that everyone will love. I would say it would be safer for people that are about 12-16

The Odyssey: Book 16 review game for English 10H class?

Does anyone know of a really quick and easy game or activity that my English 10 Honors class can play just to review Book 16 of The Odyssey?

    Approximate duration: 5-10 minutes

It can be an individual activity or group-competition.

Max # of groups in class: 2 (~8 students in each group)

It has to be an activity where the facilitator/leader of the game has to come up with questions pertaining to The Odyssey's Book 16 in order for the rest of the class to review the Book.

In the past (our class does one for each Book that we read), we've done Jeopardy-style games, board-game-move-your-piece-to-get-to-the鈥?games, pictionary/charades, top-heavy, and lots more that are really the same basic game but just with different questions and slightly modified rules and prizes/point system.

This is, like, the 16th time that we have to come up with an activity and it's getting a bit boring and repetitive, so I really need your help. I've even tried looking online for any activities/lesson plans that can be used for any book, but they all take up a lot of time--we need something exciting, something that we can do with the least possible materials/props, something that takes 10 minutes of time in class at the most (because we still have to do extensive discussion about the book right after), something that will keep us students on our toes and, most importantly, it should help us remember key parts/characters/themes in the book!

Please help! Try to remember any activities you've ever done in English class! Thank you! =)The Odyssey: Book 16 review game for English 10H class?
Since this book deals primarily with Odysseus' return to Ithaca and his master plan to reclaim his palace, regain his kingship, and again take up his old life after conducting a "war" against the suitors, then, you might want to consider playing "Bingo."The Odyssey: Book 16 review game for English 10H class?
Try something in the style of Smarter than a Fifth grader- you're using your Jeopardy questions, but in a different format.

There's always good old hang-man- the word or phrase is part of a fill-in-the-blank sentence

Have the kids work in groups to make up a board or card game.

I have to make a "Cytology Game" for school...suggestions?

I have to make some sort of Cytology game for my biology class, but I'm drawing a blank! The "theme" of the game has to be Cytology, and somehow, I have to incorporate all of these Cytology terms into it.

We cannot, however, make a trivia game, a bingo game, a "Jeopardy-like" game, or a matching game.

I need a really good concept...but I need some suggestions!

I'm prepared to go all-out on this assignment, because the person with the "best" game gets extra credit!

Please, if you have any good suggestions for a game concept, let me know! Thanks!I have to make a "Cytology Game" for school...suggestions?
If you need to incorporate terms into it, a game that includes aspects of Taboo might work. These links will help you with general ideas about making board games.

I am looking for a dvd player with closed captioning capabilities. Are these hard to find?

Can't get the jeopardy dvd game to work. the troubleshooting website says we need dvd player with closed captioning capability (CC). site distinguishes between CC on TV and CC on DVD player. I never heard of DVD player with CC. I cannot find info on www.

HELP! SammyI am looking for a dvd player with closed captioning capabilities. Are these hard to find?
I'm having the same problem. I have two DVD players and neither have CC. CC is mandatory starting when? Subtitles are not the same as CC. I read somewhere to turn the volume all the way down on the DVD player, that didn't work either. Someone else said they bought a DVD player at Walmart for $27 that has CC. Thanks Jeopardy for letting us know we needed CC to use the game. What's the odds of me owning two DVD players and neither has CC. WHAT KIND OF DVD PLAYERS DON'T HAVE CC? Answer: WHAT IS MINE!
I just recently spoke to a person at the help desk for this particular Jeopardy game and she told me that she bought the cheapest Magnovox dvd player at Wal*Mart. It's around 30 bucks and she owns the game herself and said it works perfectly for her game at home.

I too have 2 DVD players and it appears neither one have the CC. I searched on the DVD menu and the TV menu. I spoke with the DVD customer service and they said the CC option should be on the actual DVDs not the player. Any information would be helpful!!
I have th same problem. I have a sony DVP-NS775V, and there is no CC "on/off" setting in the menu. I emailed MGA entertainment, but I am not all that hopeful.I am looking for a dvd player with closed captioning capabilities. Are these hard to find?
All DVD players can do CC, it is mandatory.

On DVDs, you enable CC in the DVD menu. On TVs, you enable CC in the TV menu.
Are you sure you dont mean "Subtitles"?

Every DVD player made has the ability to turn subtitles on or off. But it is based on the Disk to have subtitles encoded.

Look at your DVD remote. One of the buttons should say "Subtitles On/Off". That might be all you need.
I have the same problem! We spent hours on the holiday trying to program the game remote. Now we learn we need CC capability which our dvd player does not have. It's three or four years old. Is this something new? Do all dvd players now have this?

Whats a good game to end a school presentation with?

    ex: jeopardy, questions, ect.

ending a powerpoint on a book and need class interation points.....

i neeeeeeeed help. thanks.Whats a good game to end a school presentation with?
I did once a real basic game where I had everyone sit on their desk and I pulled out a ball (actually I used a frisbee, but either works) and then have one kid start with it, throw it to another. If the other does not catch, they must sit down and it goes back to who threw it. If they catch it, they must answer a question pertaining to the lesson. Get it wrong, give it back to the other person. Get it right, throw it to a new person. Whoever is left at the end gets a prize.Whats a good game to end a school presentation with?
    match game

take characterisitics of the main characters and have your classmates match them to the characters

Does anybody remember what this 90's game show was called?

It was like a Jeopardy type show? Well, when the person got eliminated, they went into the dark and a gun shot had sounded to make it seem like they were shot.

    Does this sound familiar?

There have been so many trivia shows over the years. The only one I can think of that was dark and depressing like what you've described was a show called "Inquisition" . You never saw the person's face who was asking the questions, only the back of his head. He came across as arrogant, as if he thought he as God or something. I don't recall any gun shot sound effects, so that's probably not the show you're thinking of. Or is it?Does anybody remember what this 90's game show was called?

  • Is Jeopardy and Taboo the same concept?

For school, we need to do a presentation then incorporate an activity that contains an "intellectual portion". Originally we were going to do Taboo but the teacher said it didn't contain an intellectual element. If we did jeopardy instead, would we have an intellectual element or are the games pretty much the same thing? Is Jeopardy and Taboo the same concept?
    nope

What kind of stuff do you find in deep dark places?

What kind of stuff flashes or glows in the dark

Need answers for a jeopardy game for school tomorrowWhat kind of stuff do you find in deep dark places?
Those fish that live at the bottom of the oceanWhat kind of stuff do you find in deep dark places?
Well if it flashed, it wouldn't be something that glows in the dark, because something that flashes only flashes once light is shown on it. But those things you can buy that glow in the dark (like those little stars you put on your ceiling) aren't phosphorescent--they glow due to a chemiluminescent process

Phosphor is what makes things glow in the dark (aka phosphorescent materials). There are animals that glow in the dark (bioluminescence), like: Fireflies, Flashlight Fish, some specifies of squid and shrimp, the Shining Tube-shoulder fish, the Cookie-Cutter shark, Sea Firefly (nocturnal marine species), glow worms, some mushrooms, Limpets(emits light when threatened), AnglerfishWhat kind of stuff do you find in deep dark places?
Hmm, well I assume when you say "Deep and dark", you mean something like a cave?

The only thing I could think of that is flashy in a cave is a crystal or a diamond.
    Stars!! in the sky.
