Why Doesn't the Buzzer On Jeopardy Work?

I always see the people on Jeopardy pressing the buzzer, but it never seems to work for them. They press it repeatedly, and it never works. Why is that? Is the game rigged? Why Doesn't the Buzzer On Jeopardy Work?
No, game shows are never rigged. There are laws against that, with huge penalties. They are so strict about it, contestants are always monitored in the studio so nobody can give them an unfair advantage.

The buzzers are only activated JUST after Alex finishes reading the last word in a clue. If you buzz in before the buzzers are activated, you will be "locked out" for around a fifth of a second, which is plenty of time for somebody else to ring in while you wait (seriously). And of course, your buzzer is not activated if somebody else gets in before you. Jeopardy! is not only a contest of smarts, but also speed; as you need to have EXACTLY the right timing to ring in before someone else does... that's how Ken Jennings won 74 games in a row, he had gotten so used to the timing.
