If you are good at Jeopardy, does that mean you are smart?

Why do people who are good at trivia games (Jeopardy, trivial pursuit, quiz bowl, etc) think they are so smart because they've memorized a bunch of stuff? If you are good at Jeopardy, does that mean you are smart?
First - I don't know who you play trivia games with, but please don't generalize. Not everyone who is good at trivia games think they're smarter than everyone. And not everyone who is bad at trivia games are unintelligent.

Second - Sure, being good at trivia takes intelligence and memorization. It takes fast recall (being able to quickly come up with the correct answer), interest in the topic(s), practice, and motivation. There are other things, too, but those are the main talents/qualities that come to mind.If you are good at Jeopardy, does that mean you are smart?
No... only as you have said that they have MEMORIZED things but do not actually know how to do those things.

I am good at most 'games' also HOWEVER, I am a writer, singer, gardener, studying Spanish, Italian, French, Arabic and Yaqui, Scratch baker, cook, am a premed student and was a nurse, and artist and designer etc... not bragging just stating facts...

I know others whom score sometimes higher than me and brag that they are sooooo smart, yet they can't tie their shoes....

True 'smartness' or knowledge is KNOWING how to do things and not simply knowing the definition or when it was done...

You may know when the a medical proceedure was done... but what good does that serve if you are in a room when a person is having a heart attack... what are you going to do, say "what is a heart attack?"If you are good at Jeopardy, does that mean you are smart?
well, to have memorized that much information implies that the person is fairly intelligent. But knowledge does not necesarily indicate superior intelligence, so no.
it is not Just memorization. It is knowing things in many different areas./
